Ventura County authorities have charged 73-year-old Warren Luther Alexander with three counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of three women in cold cases from 1977. Investigators believe there may be more victims in California and other states. Alexander, a former long-haul truck driver, is accused of strangling Kimberly Carol Fritz, Lorraine Ann Rodriguez, and Velvet Ann Sanchez, who were sex workers killed in Ventura County. DNA evidence linked Alexander to the crimes, leading to his extradition from North Carolina, where he faced separate cold-case murder charges. Investigators are also looking into a possible connection between Alexander and the 1975 murder of Cassandra Lee Miller. They believe that all four deaths may be connected. Alexander grew up in Oxnard and worked as a truck driver from the 1970s through the early 1990s. He had previously faced murder charges in North Carolina for the strangulation of a woman in 1992. In court proceedings, the district attorney announced that he will seek life in prison without the possibility of parole for Alexander, rather than the death penalty, to expedite the case due to aging witnesses and the need for efficiency. Alexander’s arraignment has been continued to August 21, and he is currently being held in Ventura County Jail without bail.
