FBI Investigates Trump Hack Attributed to Iran; Kamala Harris Campaign Also Subject to Cyber Attack

The FBI has confirmed that Iranian cyber agents breached Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, and the Kamala Harris campaign also revealed an unsuccessful hack attempt. Trump stated that Iran had hacked his 2024 political operation, and the FBI is currently investigating the matter. The Harris campaign reported a “spear phishing” attack that was unsuccessful. The White House condemned any foreign entities attempting to interfere in U.S. elections. Trump claimed that only publicly available information was accessed by the hackers. News organizations received documents regarding Sen. J.D. Vance’s vulnerabilities before he was selected as Trump’s running mate, potentially damaging to the GOP campaign. The Trump campaign criticized the media for reprinting internal communications, stating that they are aiding America’s enemies. In 2016, Hillary Clinton’s campaign faced damaging revelations after Russian hackers breached the Democratic National Committee’s email servers. Trump, who had publicly encouraged Russia to hack Clinton, celebrated the breach and read portions of the emails at a campaign rally.
