A father of two toddlers who were thrown from a Jeep in a highway crash on the I-10 East Freeway in Houston, Texas, is likely to face criminal charges, according to officials. The accident involved a two-car crash where one vehicle flipped over multiple times, resulting in the ejection of the young children who were not in car seats at the time.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as alarming, with video footage showing the stranded toddlers dressed only in diapers on the highway before being rescued by emergency responders. Both children are currently being treated at the hospital and are in serious but stable condition.
The father, who was driving the vehicle, was treated for minor injuries and released. While no charges have been filed yet, the case is still under investigation, and it is expected that charges will be brought against the father soon.
In Texas, state law mandates that children under the age of 8 must be secured in a child safety seat while traveling in a vehicle. Failure to comply with this law can result in tragic consequences, as demonstrated by the 39% of children killed in traffic crashes in 2022 who were not properly restrained.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to child safety seat laws and taking the necessary precautions to protect young passengers while on the road.
