In a recent episode of Hot Ones, host Sean Evans revealed that Ryan Reynolds had been avoiding appearing on the famous culinary talk show until he finally said yes to appear alongside his Deadpool & Wolverine costar Hugh Jackman. Filmed in July, the episode featured Reynolds and Jackman eating increasingly spicy chicken wings and sharing some interesting behind-the-scenes stories.
During the episode, Reynolds shared his scrapped idea to shoot and market Deadpool & Wolverine under a fake name called “Alpha Cop,” which was intentionally bad and meant to surprise viewers as a crossover film. Reynolds also expressed his shock that some of the film’s biggest surprises, including many cameo appearances, didn’t get leaked online. The movie features appearances by Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum, and Dafne Keen, paying homage to previous 20th Century Fox-produced Marvel movies.
Evans reprised his role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four franchise, while Garner returned as Elektra from Daredevil, Snipes as Blade, and Keen as Laura/X-23 from Logan. Tatum got to finally play X-Men character Gambit on the big screen after years of being tied to a scrapped spinoff film. The episode provided fans with an inside look at the making of the film and hinted at the camaraderie between Reynolds and Jackman.
