Zelenskyy asserts that Ukrainian forces are in complete control of the Russian town of Sudzha

Ukraine’s forces have reportedly advanced further into Russia’s Kursk region, capturing the Russian town of Sudzha. This marks the largest Russian town to fall under Ukrainian control since the cross-border incursion began over a week ago. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine’s military is setting up a command office in Sudzha, indicating potential long-term plans to remain in the region.

Satellite images also show damage to a Russian air base in Borisoglebsk after a Ukrainian drone strike, potentially as a diversion to prevent Russian airstrikes on Ukraine and hinder Moscow’s advancement in the Donbas region. Russia has declared a state of emergency in the border region of Belgorod, next to Kursk, in response to the conflict.

As tensions escalate, Kursk’s regional governor has ordered the evacuation of additional towns and villages in the border area, with roughly 121,000 people already evacuated from the region since the incursion began. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has mentioned plans to establish a military commander’s office in Sudzha, although the exact functions of this office are yet to be clarified.

The situation remains fluid, with significant movement on both sides as Ukraine continues to push into Russian territory and Russia responds with emergency measures and evacuations. As the conflict grows, the international community is closely monitoring the developments and urging for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions in the region.
