Taylor Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, have launched the Swifties for Kamala Coalition to fundraise for Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. The group raised over $142,000 during a virtual rally that featured singer Carole King and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand. Many donations made during the rally were in the range of $13 to $19.89, referencing Swift’s favorite number and album title. The coalition was founded by Emerald Medrano, who sees similarities between Harris and Swift in their ability to open doors and support others.
While Swift has not publicly endorsed a candidate for the upcoming election, there is hope among the coalition members that she will support Harris, as she did for President Joe Biden in 2020. President Trump recently posted a fake image of Swift endorsing him, but her spokesperson has not commented on the matter. Despite not being directly involved with the group, Swifties are enthusiastic about supporting Harris and hope for the singer’s endorsement. The coalition emphasizes Harris’s intelligence, power, and care for people, which resonates with many members. The event had a positive and uplifting atmosphere, with supporters expressing excitement for the vice president’s campaign and the impact she could have.
