Police in Dallas are searching for the driver of a black Dodge Ram 1500 who struck 22-year-old skateboarder Julian Barrera and left him for dead on the sidewalk in the Lake Highlands neighborhood on August 11. Barrera suffered a broken leg and head injuries in the hit-and-run. Surveillance photos released by police show the damaged truck they are looking for.
Barrera, who was riding his skateboard home from a friend’s house in the early hours of the morning, was knocked unconscious by the truck and woke up on the sidewalk with bystanders around him. He was in significant pain and required medical attention. His family is pleading for the driver to come forward and take responsibility for the incident.
Dallas police are actively investigating the case and are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver of the black truck. The truck was last seen at a Quik Trip gas station in the area with visible damage to the front right light and fender. Barrera’s older sister, Cassandra, is in contact with the detective assigned to the case and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Barrera family is hopeful that the driver will be found and held accountable for the hit-and-run. Julian Barrera is now at home recovering from his injuries, and it may take several months for him to fully heal from the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Dallas Police Department.
