DeSoto police shot and killed a man who was holding a child and threatening to shoot officers. The man was originally seen trespassing in a neighborhood at 4 a.m., holding a gun and a child while with two women. Officers found them and tried to negotiate, but the man refused to drop the gun. Fearing for the child’s safety, an officer shot and killed the man. The man has not been identified, and the two women were taken in for questioning. The child was given to family members. The officer who fired has been placed on paid leave, and an investigation is underway involving Grand Prairie Police and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. DeSoto Police are expected to release more information once the suspect is identified.
