Vehicle flips over due to tire malfunction

A deadly bus crash in Mississippi killed seven people and injured dozens after the vehicle experienced a tire failure, causing it to run off the road and overturn. The crash, involving a 2018 Volvo commercial passenger bus operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, occurred on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating various factors, including the mechanical condition of the bus, the driver’s experience, and environmental factors.

The bus was carrying 41 passengers and two drivers on a trip from Atlanta to Dallas when the incident happened. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Six people were pronounced dead at the scene, with one person dying later in the hospital. Another 36 individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment. Among the victims were a 16-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, with authorities working to identify the remaining victims.

Autobuses Regiomontanos has over 20 years of experience offering trips between Mexico and the United States. In the 24 months before the crash, the company’s vehicles were involved in one fatal crash, two injury collisions, and a crash requiring a tow truck. The NTSB expressed condolences for the survivors and victims of the crash and will continue their investigation at the scene for at least another week.
