President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris made their first joint appearance at a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Labor Day. They aimed to rally support from unions and blue-collar workers in a key battleground state ahead of the November 5 election against Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Biden, who dropped out of the presidential race in July, pledged to support Harris and condemned Trump as anti-union. He highlighted his decision to select Harris as his running mate, calling it the best decision he made as president. Harris echoed Biden’s support for American steel production and emphasized the importance of keeping companies like US Steel under US control.
During their appearance, Harris faced protesters in Detroit demanding a shift in US support for Israel amid the conflict in Gaza. The duo has also appeared together at the Democratic National Convention and a White House event on Medicare drug price cuts.
However, with the economy being a key focus for Republican attacks, independent pollster Jeremy Zogby emphasized the need for Harris to distinguish herself from the current administration and address issues. Polls have shown Harris leading Trump, but Zogby noted that the situation in battleground states is always changing.
Their first debate is scheduled for September 10, where Harris will have the opportunity to further differentiate herself from Trump. The campaign continues to evolve as election day approaches, with both candidates working to secure crucial support in swing states.
