College campuses in Tarrant County approved as early voting sites by commissioners

Tarrant County commissioners recently approved a list of early voting sites that will include college campuses, despite an effort to eliminate some locations. After a four-hour public comment session, the Commissioners Court voted 4-1 in favor of keeping all eight early voting locations at college campuses, with Republican Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare being the lone vote against it. O’Hare had pushed to eliminate voting sites at some campuses with diverse student populations, arguing that they were too close to other sites and a waste of taxpayer money. Some opponents accused O’Hare of voter suppression, pointing out that voting locations at conservative and majority-white universities were left intact. Ultimately, the Republican commissioners, along with the support of two Democrats who voted virtually, decided to keep the sites as they are currently with an additional location. This decision was praised by students who believe that easy access to voting is important for everyone. The information for this article was gathered from the Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting, interviews with county officials, and students, as well as previous reports from FOX 4 News.
