Former “Dancing With The Stars” pro Artem Chigvintsev has demanded joint custody of his son and spousal support from his estranged wife, Nikki Garcia, according to court documents filed recently. This comes after Garcia filed for divorce just weeks after Chigvintsev was arrested for domestic violence, although prosecutors have not decided on charges yet.
In the court documents, Chigvintsev cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakdown of their marriage, listing August 29 as the date of their separation – the same day he was arrested in Napa County, California. In addition to joint custody and spousal support, he is also asking Garcia to cover his legal fees.
Chigvintsev and Garcia share a 4-year-old son, Matteo, and despite tying the knot in Paris in August 2022, their marriage was legally recognized in the US in January 2023. The couple’s relationship had reportedly been tumultuous, with alleged instances of verbal abuse in the past.
Chigvintsev and Garcia met during her time as a contestant on “DWTS” in 2017. The recent events have shed light on the challenges in their relationship, leading to court battles over custody and support. The situation has raised awareness about domestic violence, with resources like the National Domestic Violence Hotline being shared for those in need of support.
