One of the employees of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, was killed during an Israeli operation in the occupied West Bank. The employee, identified as Sufyan Jaber Abed Jawwad, was shot and killed by a sniper in Faraa refugee camp. The Israeli military called him a “terrorist” posing a threat to troops. This incident is part of the escalating raids in the West Bank that have resulted in the deaths of several Palestinians. Unrwa condemned the killing of its employee, who worked as a sanitation laborer, stating that he was the first to be killed in the Palestinian territory in over a decade.
In other developments, Israeli airstrikes in Syria killed 18 people, while mourners gathered for the funeral of a US-Turkish activist shot dead during a protest against Israeli settlements. There is an ongoing campaign to drive Unrwa out of existence, with the Israeli government allegedly seeking to close down the agency. Additionally, Israel arrested a teenager in connection with a vehicle explosion that killed four people in Ramla.
The international community is working towards a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with discussions held in Madrid involving ministers from Muslim and European countries. South Africa is determined to pursue a genocide case against Israel at the international court of justice. Turkey’s spy chief also met with a Hamas delegation to discuss ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
