Former late-night television host David Letterman found himself in an unexpected role on Monday: a potential juror in a criminal trial. Judge P. Kevin Castel questioned Letterman, using the alias “Juror 16,” along with other prospective jurors for a trial involving cryptocurrency fraud in New York City.
As the process unfolded, Letterman, known for his humor, couldn’t help but inject jokes into his answers. When asked where he lived, he initially said Hartford, only to reveal he lives in Westchester County after clarifying it was a joke. The questioning continued, with details about Letterman’s background, career with Netflix, sports preferences, and hobbies being revealed. Despite his enthusiasm to serve on the jury, a prosecutor eventually used a “strike” to remove Letterman from consideration.
Letterman, who retired from his long-running “Late Show” in 2015, was open and candid during the jury selection process, showcasing his wit and charm. The unusual circumstances of a beloved celebrity participating in such a routine civic duty sparked interest and entertainment among those present in the courtroom. However, in the end, Letterman was not chosen for the jury, further adding a humorous twist to an already unique situation.
