Broderick Early Kennedy has been charged with capital murder after fatally shooting his wife and mother-in-law following a domestic dispute at the Arts at Broadway Commons apartments in Garland, Texas. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, with police responding to a call about a disturbance.
Upon arriving at the apartment, officers discovered the door had been forced open and found two small children inside. As they attempted to remove the children safely, gunshots were heard coming from the back bedroom. Broderick surrendered to police as they entered the apartment and was taken into custody.
Inside the bedroom, Broderick’s wife, Donille Lashay Kennedy, was found shot dead. Donille’s mother, Shirley Jean Phillip, had also been shot and was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The two children have been placed in the care of extended family members.
