Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, recently made a stop in Dallas as part of its Big Boy Heartland of America Tour. This historic locomotive, one of only eight surviving from the 25 built during World War II, is the only one in operation. After its stop in Dallas, the train will be heading to Hearne and then back to North Texas in October, with a scheduled visit to Fort Worth from October 10 to October 13.
During its stops, the Big Boy will be open to the public for free viewing at the Fort Worth T&P Station on W. Lancaster Avenue. Visitors will have the chance to see this impressive piece of history up close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, before the locomotive departs on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m.
The Big Boy Heartland of America Tour will take the train through 10 states, allowing people to witness this engineering marvel in action. The train’s route and current location can be tracked on Union Pacific’s website.
