2024 Season kicks off as State Fair of Texas opens its gates

The State Fair of Texas kicks off in Dallas, with a three-week run starting on Friday. The fair, which dates back to 1886, is set to draw over 2 million people during its 24-day duration. Opening day features a parade and a performance by Jo De Messina on the Chevrolet Main Stage. Other highlights include the Cotton Bowl Classic between Prairie View A&M and Grambling State, as well as the Red River Rivalry between Texas and OU. Behind the scenes, there are attractions like a water race game, Mighty Mike the strong man, and a prize warehouse where fairgoers can win big prizes. The fair also features the viral deviled egg TikTok trend with a Texas twist, as well as a close-up look at making a Fletcher’s corny dog. The iconic 55-foot-tall cowboy, Big Tex, has been a staple at the fair since 1952 and will be welcoming visitors throughout the event. The fair concludes on Oct. 20 and is known as one of the premier state fairs in America, offering entertainment, food, and fun for all ages.
