Fort Bend County Judge KP George has been indicted on misdemeanor charges for allegedly creating fake and racist social media posts during his re-election campaign in 2022. The indictment accuses George of posing as a Facebook user named “Antonio Scalywag” to influence the election and injure a candidate, although specific details were not provided. George, the first person of color to serve as county judge in Fort Bend, was elected in 2018 and was running for re-election against Trever Nehls.
Authorities believe George worked with his former chief of staff, Taral Patel, to create the fake social media posts. Patel, who is also running for a county commissioner position, was indicted earlier on similar charges. After surrendering to authorities, George expressed disappointment at the charges but was confident that justice would prevail.
Despite calls for his resignation from some officials, George stated that he had no intention of stepping down and was determined to clear his name in court. The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, which led the investigation, expanded its probe to include George after indicting Patel. George’s attorney has yet to respond to requests for comment.
As the case unfolds in court, there are growing concerns about the impact of this scandal on George’s political career and future as a public servant. Fort Bend County residents will be closely watching the developments of this high-profile case involving their county judge.
