Rowlett Mayor Blake Margolis is crying foul after the Dallas County Elections Department decided to move the early voting site for the city to a smaller venue. Margolis claims that this decision will suppress votes and negatively impact the residents of Rowlett, a city with a population of over 60,000. The early voting site was moved from the Rowlett Community Centre, which had ample space and parking, to Freedom Place Church, which only has a dozen parking spots. Margolis believes that this move will inconvenience voters, especially those who need drive-up access.
Despite reaching out to the Dallas County Elections Department for an explanation, no response was provided to FOX 4. Margolis expressed his disappointment in the decision, stating that the community center was offered as a free and suitable option for early voting. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who represents Rowlett, did not respond to requests for comment. However, it has been reported that election sites will be discussed at the upcoming commission meeting.
The mayor’s concerns have sparked controversy and raised questions about the fairness of the election process in Rowlett. With early voting set to begin on October 21, the issue of limited access and parking at the new voting site remains unresolved. Residents are left wondering if their voices will be heard in the upcoming election amidst the controversy surrounding the choice of venue for early voting.
