Daughter of Woman Arrested for Shooting Man on I-20 Claims Self-Defense In an incident on I-20 in Dallas this week, 44-year-old Latuita Holland was arrested for shooting a man in the stomach. However, her daughter, Laderrika Holland, claims that her mother was not the aggressor and that they feared for their lives. According to Laderrika, they were on their way to work for a night shift when the driver of a Chevy Suburban began acting aggressively on the highway, eventually cutting them off and slamming on his brakes. Latuita then reportedly reached for her handgun and fired a warning shot in self-defense.
Laderrika called 911 during the incident, and her recent log on her Apple Watch confirms the timing of the call. She stated that the driver of the Suburban was acting suspiciously and that her mother felt she had no other choice but to fire the second shot. After the incident, both Latuita and another driver provided aid to the injured man before police arrived.
The man was taken to Baylor Hospital in critical condition, but no weapon was found on or near him. Latuita remains in the Dallas County jail, facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. Prior to this incident, she did not have any felonies on her record. The district attorney’s office will determine whether to move forward with prosecution.
Laderrika’s account of the events contradicts the charges against her mother and raises questions about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Dallas Police Department and court documents provide information for this article, along with an interview with Laderrika Holland.
