Elon Musk has announced his support for former President Donald Trump by joining him at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, following an assassination attempt on Trump’s life in July. The rally, scheduled for Saturday, will also see Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance, and his son Eric Trump in attendance.
Since the assassination attempt, Musk has openly endorsed Trump and expressed his support for his reelection bid. Musk has become increasingly politically engaged in recent months, posting about his support for Trump and criticizing Democrats. He has also made a significant contribution to a political action committee supporting Trump’s campaign.
Despite facing backlash for his controversial comments, including a joke about assassinating President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Musk remains a vocal supporter of Trump. Musk’s close relationship with Trump was highlighted during a recent interview on Musk’s social media platform, X, where Trump praised Musk’s handling of employee complaints.
The rally in Butler is seen as a rebuke to the “evil assassin” and a tribute to the American spirit. Trump’s campaign has emphasized the importance of standing up to political violence and honoring the memory of Corey Comperatore, the Trump supporter who was killed in the July shooting.
Musk’s backing of Trump is not the first time he has been involved in politics, having previously clashed with Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and hosted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on his platform. Musk’s increasing influence in politics and his support for Trump underscore the complex and evolving relationship between technology, business, and political power in the US.
