Suspected Arlington murderer apprehended through use of shell casing and phone records

Arlington, Texas – The arrest of 25-year-old Rondre Mayberry has been made in connection to the murder of 51-year-old Ricardo Oliveros earlier this year. Oliveros was found shot and lying in the street next to his pickup truck on February 13, 2024. Mayberry was arrested on one count of murder after nearly eight months of investigation.

Surveillance footage showed the suspect approaching Oliveros’ pickup before shooting him and fleeing the scene. Detectives found a shell casing at the crime scene which was later matched to a gun recovered from Mayberry during a separate incident. Further investigation revealed that Mayberry’s phone pinged in the area of the murder both before and after the shooting.

Police Chief Al Jones praised the collaborative effort of various units within the department for the successful arrest of Mayberry. However, a motive for the shooting remains unclear, and detectives have not found a connection between the victim and the suspect. Mayberry is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for an unrelated 2024 conviction.

The arrest brings some closure to the case of Ricardo Oliveros’ murder, but questions still linger regarding the motive behind the deadly shooting. The Arlington Police Department continues to urge anyone with information to come forward in order to provide justice for Oliveros’ family.
