Local Prosecutors Receive Haitian Group’s Case Against Trump and Vance from Court

A municipal court in Ohio has declined to issue arrest warrants for former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance after a nonprofit organization accused them of making false claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield. The Clark County court did not find cause to issue warrants but referred the matter to the Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. The claims originated from social media posts by Vance and were repeated by Trump during a presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite local and state officials confirming that the claims were false, the situation has led to bomb threats and poor school attendance in Springfield, a city of 60,000 people in Ohio. The Haitian Bridges Alliance, a nonprofit based in San Diego that advocates for migrants and immigrants, filed the charges in Clark County Municipal Court. The organization is represented by former federal prosecutor Subodh Chandra, who is now an attorney in Cleveland. Chandra previously ran for the Democratic nomination for Ohio attorney general in 2006. The legal proceedings regarding the false claims made by Vance and Trump have brought national attention to the issue and the impact it has had on the community of Springfield.
