Tim Walz to be the main attraction at fundraising event in Cincinnati for his campaign

Local Democrats in Cincinnati gathered for a fundraising event for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, headlined by Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. The event was held at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, with prominent city politicians attending. Walz, the current governor of Minnesota, emphasized the importance of Ohio in the upcoming election, highlighting the need to turn out the vote despite it not being a swing state.

Former Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton, who is considering a run for Ohio governor, was also present at the event and praised Walz’s authenticity and commitment to making a difference. Several other notable figures attended, including activist Mario Van Peebles and Funk legend Bootsy Collins, who performed at the event. A group of protestors outside called for an arms embargo as part of their message.

Despite efforts to bring Kamala Harris to the region, Walz was substituted in her place due to scheduling conflicts. The event took place in Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance’s hometown, showcasing Cincinnati’s significance as a stronghold for Democrats nationally. The city is considered crucial in fundraising efforts and political victories for the party.

With Ohio lessening in swing state status, Greater Cincinnati’s role in upcoming elections, including the reelection campaign of Senator Sherrod Brown, has become increasingly important. Early voting in Ohio starts on October 8th, setting the stage for a dynamic and competitive political landscape leading up to the elections.
