An elderly couple in North Richland Hills, Texas, was attacked by a swarm of bees in their front yard in late September. Lonnie Burns, 72, who was allergic to bees, tragically passed away from his injuries, while his wife, Patricia Burns, 74, was released from the hospital the same day. The couple was rushed to the hospital after Lonnie went outside to mow the lawn and was swarmed by bees, causing Patricia to also be stung as she tried to help him. Lonnie suffered multiple stings across his body, resulting in bruises on his face and falls as he tried to escape the attack.
The North Richland Hills Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting the bee attack and later removed the hive from the property. Patricia is now urging the public to educate themselves about bee safety to prevent similar tragedies from happening. The information in this article comes from interviews with Patricia as well as the North Richland Hills Police and Fire Department.
The sad incident serves as a reminder of the importance of bee safety, especially for individuals who may be allergic to bee stings. It is essential for everyone to be aware of the risks posed by bees and how to respond in case of an attack to prevent further accidents and tragedies.
