Duke Energy is preparing for over 1 million outages in Florida as Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm with wind speeds of up to 165 mph, is expected to hit the state. The company will stage 16,000 workers from Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana at sites along Milton’s path to begin power restoration as soon as weather conditions allow. The storm is forecasted to be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida. Meanwhile, the Southeast is still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, with over 1 million people in Georgia and North Carolina without power. Duke Energy has restored 2.6 million outages, including 1.4 million in North Carolina, since Sept. 27. The company is facing challenges in providing electricity to customers in western North Carolina due to extensive damage to their homes caused by Helene. Duke Energy is implementing a targeted approach to its operations in the affected areas to expedite power restoration.
