Owners of lost pets are being targeted by scams

Dallas Police are warning residents of a new scam targeting individuals who post about their lost pets on PawBoost. Scammers are posing as members of the DAS Urgent Care Team, claiming that pets are at Dallas Animal Services and in need of expensive lifesaving surgery. They are requesting payment via CashApp, which Dallas Animal Services does not use. There is no Urgent Care Team at DAS, and the organization will never ask for payment over the phone. If you receive a call like this, do not provide any payment information. Residents who have been targeted are urged to report the scam to the Dallas Police Department and contact DAS at DASPIO@dallas.gov. The information has been verified by the Dallas Police Department.
