Israel has escalated its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, killing at least 18 people in a strike on the town of Aitou. This marks a departure from previous attacks which mainly targeted southern Lebanon and Beirut suburbs. The strike in Aitou hit a house that had been rented to displaced families, causing deaths and injuries. Israel has ordered residents of 25 villages to evacuate as it intensifies its attacks.
Hezbollah claimed to have battled Israeli troops in south Lebanon and launched new attacks on Israel. Israeli forces also faced criticism for allegedly attacking UN peacekeepers. Sirens sounded across Israel as projectiles were fired from Lebanon, with Israel intercepting them and striking back.
The United Nations human rights office condemned Israeli airstrikes on northern Gaza, where civilians are trapped without supplies. The US embassy urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately. In the West Bank, two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces during a counterterrorism operation.
An Israeli airstrike near an aid convoy in Lebanon wounded a driver and damaged trucks. Israel’s Defense Minister briefed the US on a deadly drone attack by Hezbollah and promised a forceful response. The attack near Binyamina killed four soldiers and injured many others. Gallant expressed appreciation for the US decision to send a missile defense system to Israel.
