Erika Diarte-Carr, a single mother of two from Utah, has tragically passed away after a two-year battle with terminal cancer. She was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung carcinoma in 2022, which later progressed to Cushing Syndrome. Despite being given just three months to live in September, Carr bravely continued to fight for her children, 7-year-old Jeremiah and 5-year-old Aaliyah.
In the face of her impending death, Carr started a GoFundMe page to raise money for her own funeral expenses and to provide financial stability for her children. Despite initially feeling ashamed and embarrassed to ask for help, Carr’s situation forced her to reach out to the community for support.
The response was overwhelming, with the GoFundMe page raising over $1,180,000 by the time of her passing. Carr expressed her gratitude to all the donors, promising to use the funds to plan a big family trip for her children and to set up a trust fund for their future financial security.
Through her strength and determination, Carr left a lasting impact on her children’s lives and touched the hearts of many who generously supported her cause. Her cousin, Angelique Rivera, announced her passing on Facebook and shared that Carr had fought bravely until the end, now joining her mother and other loved ones who had passed before her.
