Honduran Man Sentenced to 37 Years in Prison for Organized Crime in North Texas
A 30-year-old Honduran man, Sergio Cardenas-Salinas, has been sentenced to 37 years in prison after being convicted of engaging in organized criminal activity in North Texas. District Attorney Greg Willis stated that Cardenas-Salinas led an organized criminal operation responsible for a series of high-profile home burglaries in Collin County.
The burglaries targeted ten residents in Plano, Prosper, and McKinney between July 16 and September 5, 2023, with the burglars specifically looking for gold, jewelry, and cash. The Plano Police Department’s investigation led to the arrest of Cardenas-Salinas and nine other suspects after tracking a vehicle linked to the crimes.
The burglary ring consisted of individuals from Guatemala, Honduras, and Venezuela, all based in Houston. They targeted people of Asian, South Asian, and Middle Eastern descent, believing these communities had large amounts of cash and valuables in their homes. Evidence gathered by Plano Police linked Cardenas-Salinas and his crew to the burglaries, leading to his guilty plea for organized criminal activity.
Cardenas-Salinas, who had previously been deported twice for illegal entry into the United States, received a 37-year sentence from a jury. District Attorney Willis emphasized that Collin County will not tolerate criminal illegal aliens preying on law-abiding citizens, stating that the lengthy prison sentence sends a clear message that the community will be protected from those who come to the country to commit crimes.
