Storms Neither Slow Scott, Mucarsel-Powell Senate Race Amid Helene and Milton Impact

Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott and Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell continued their heated campaign ahead of the election, with recent hurricanes Helene and Milton adding fuel to the fire. Mucarsel-Powell criticized Scott for his response to the disasters and ties to property insurance companies, while Scott attacked Mucarsel-Powell for being a socialist and not caring about hurricane victims. Both candidates visited affected areas and provided aid to victims.

Polls show Scott leading but Mucarsel-Powell within striking distance, with a tightening race according to some results. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is supporting Mucarsel-Powell with a multi-million dollar boost. Her campaign manager claims Scott is vulnerable due to high unfavorability ratings, but Scott’s campaign remains confident.

Both candidates have been active on the campaign trail, with Scott heavily investing in TV ads and Mucarsel-Powell releasing ads attacking Scott’s past controversies. However, the lack of an agreed-upon debate is a missed opportunity for both candidates to reach voters.

With early voting underway, over 709,000 ballots have already been cast, limiting the impact of campaign ads on a significant portion of the electorate. Despite financial challenges in getting her message out to voters, Mucarsel-Powell remains determined to close the gap with Scott in the final weeks before Election Day.
