Italian Prime Minister Meloni Condemns Israeli Offensive on UNIFIL

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has once again denounced the recent attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, calling it “unacceptable.” During a joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Meloni expressed her concern for the safety of the soldiers and called on all parties to ensure their protection.

Meloni, who claimed to be the first head of government to visit Lebanon since the tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated, highlighted her efforts to work towards a sustainable ceasefire in the region. She attended a high-level EU summit in Brussels, where the Middle East crisis was a key focus of discussions.

The European Council has also expressed deep alarm over the military escalation in the Middle East and the risks it poses to the region. The Council condemned the rising hostilities in Lebanon, the civilian casualties, and the persistent use of military force. They reiterated the need to protect civilians at all times.

Meloni extended her solidarity to those affected by the fighting and mourned the loss of lives and displacement caused by the crisis that has lasted over a year. She emphasized Italy’s efforts, along with other international partners, to call for a 21-day ceasefire.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s strong stance against the attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon and her commitment to working towards a sustainable ceasefire in the region reflect the international community’s efforts to address the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
