Former “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic has been placed in quarantine after being infected with scabies while serving his 21-year sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth. Scabies is a contagious skin rash caused by mites burrowing under the skin and laying eggs. The prison has confirmed an outbreak in a housing unit, leading to temporary suspension of visitation.
Joe’s lawyer reported that he had been experiencing symptoms for over a month including a rash and itching, allegedly due to unsanitary conditions in the prison, despite the prison stating there was no vermin infestation. The prison has implemented precautions to reduce the risk of exposure to scabies and other communicable infections, although they are currently facing staffing shortages, including medical employees.
Despite his challenges, Joe remains optimistic about the prospect of being freed in 2025 and is even considering a future career in academia. Joe rose to fame as the subject of the hit 2020 docuseries “Tiger King,” which portrayed the exploits at his Oklahoma zoo. He is currently serving his sentence for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his rival, Carole Baskin, and for violating federal wildlife laws. As he navigates through his health concerns and confinement issues, Joe continues to look towards the future with hope and ambition.
