Evacuations have been ordered for east Oakland residents after a brush fire broke out on Friday afternoon and burned two homes. Over 80 firefighters and personnel from other local fire agencies were fighting the fast-moving fire, which spread over 13 acres and burned less than 10 structures. Despite threatening dozens of homes, only a few structures were damaged. Residents in several zones were ordered to evacuate immediately, with evacuation points set up in the area. The fire was moving north and northwest, with evacuation warnings issued for other zones as well. A temporary evacuation point was set up at Burckhalter Elementary School. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Rep. Barbara Lee urged residents to follow evacuation orders and stay safe. This is a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
