An 18-year-old from Haltom City, Texas, could face up to 10 years in federal prison for selling Glock switches that allow pistols to mimic machine guns. Juan Angel Rendon pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a machine gun after a video was released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office showing him randomly opening fire out of a moving vehicle using the switch-equipped handgun. The arrest was part of Operation Texas Kill Switch, which aims to combat the rise in conversion devices in the state. Rendon was caught selling firearms and machine gun conversion devices from a mobile home in Haltom City. An undercover agent purchased a 9mm pistol and a switch for $900 in August. Rendon was arrested in September after being indicted in October. Inside his home, ATF agents found nine firearms, two of which were equipped with switches. The ATF warns that selling Glock switches is a serious offense and those caught doing so will face prosecution. At least two of the firearms linked to Rendon were involved in shootings in the Fort Worth area. Rendon’s sentencing is scheduled for February. This case highlights the dangers of illegal weapons modifications and the serious consequences for those involved in their sale.
