Republicans Maintain Narrow Leads in Nebraska and Texas Senate Elections

In the latest polls from The New York Times and Siena College, union leader and political independent Dan Osborn is close to catching up with Republican Senator Deb Fischer in Nebraska, while Democrat Representative Colin Allred has more ground to cover against Senator Ted Cruz in Texas. The results indicate that the upcoming election is incredibly tight, with less than a week to go before ballots are counted.

Osborn, who is running as an independent voice for the working class in Nebraska, is trailing Fischer by just two percentage points, while Allred in Texas is behind Cruz by four points. The polls also show that in both states, Vice President Kamala Harris is trailing former President Donald Trump by wider margins.

Trump is polling ahead of the Republican Senate candidates in both Nebraska and Texas, with Harris leading comfortably in the Omaha congressional district in Nebraska. This could potentially secure her a critical electoral vote if she wins the “blue wall” states but loses the swing states in the Sun Belt.

The close margins in the polls suggest that a small polling error could sway the election either way. In 2018, Ted Cruz narrowly defeated his well-funded Democratic challenger, Beto O’Rourke, by a similar margin to his current lead over Allred.

The outcome of these races could have significant implications for the balance of power in the Senate and potentially the presidency, highlighting the importance of every vote as the election approaches.
