LUBBOCK, Texas – Former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II is headed to his fifth Super Bowl appearance after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 32-29 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. With the win, the Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, aiming to become the first NFL franchise to win three consecutive world titles.

Mahomes, who completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown, is now the third starting quarterback in history to reach five or more Super Bowls, alongside Tom Brady and John Elway. In his postseason career, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a 17-3 record and is only the second quarterback behind Brady for playoff wins. At 29 years old, Mahomes is the youngest quarterback to lead a franchise to five Super Bowls in a six-year span.

The Chiefs’ victory over the Bills marked their ninth consecutive postseason win, putting Mahomes in elite company with only Brady and Bart Starr for a similar streak. Mahomes will aim to match Brady’s all-time record of 10 consecutive postseason wins in Super Bowl LIX, set to kick off on February 9 at 5:30 PM in New Orleans. The Chiefs have two other Texas Tech alumni on their roster for the Super Bowl, tight end Baylor Cupp, and injured reserve player Le’Raven Clark.

As Mahomes and the Chiefs prepare for their historic Super Bowl matchup, Texas Tech fans will be eagerly watching to see if their former quarterback can lead the team to another championship victory.
