Moments Leading Up to Crash Captured on ATC Tapes

Air traffic controllers were aware of a problem moments before a Medevac jet crashed in Philadelphia, killing all six people on board and injuring over a dozen on the ground. The cause of the crash is still unknown, but recordings suggest that the controllers sensed an issue. The jet took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and did not report any problems, but the controllers tried to contact the aircraft several times without a response. The field was eventually closed as they worked to figure out what happened. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

The crash occurred near the Roosevelt Mall, causing an explosion that set homes and cars on fire and injuring numerous people on the ground. One person in a car at the time of the crash also died, with 19 others reported injured, although more may be discovered. The aircraft was carrying one pediatric patient, the child’s mother, and four crew members from Mexico, all of whom perished in the crash. The incident has sparked an investigation into the cause of the tragic accident. Audio recordings from air traffic control show the sequence of events leading up to the crash and the response from controllers on the ground.
