Authorities in Texas are currently investigating a case involving the theft and cruelty towards 14 Angus cattle that were found in an abandoned trailer. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding an abandoned trailer on Highway 19 South, where they discovered the cattle in distress, with eight of them already dead.
Sheriff Zak Benge confirmed that the animals were stolen and are treating the case as both theft and cruelty to livestock. The owner of the cattle has been notified, and Special Ranger Darrell Bobbitt of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is assisting in the investigation.
Local cowboys and Texas Department of Transportation personnel helped officials transport the surviving cattle and dispose of the dead animals. Sheriff Benge stated that this type of activity will not be tolerated, and they will do everything they can to hold the thieves and abusers accountable for their actions.
The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, and residents are hopeful that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
