Investigation into human trafficking prompts closure of Garland massage parlor

Massage parlor Healing Foot Spa in Garland, Texas has been ordered to shut down for at least six months following an investigation into human trafficking by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Inspectors found evidence of commercial sex services being offered, such as underwear, pregnancy tests, and an ATM in the lobby, as well as the presence of an unlicensed employee hiding under a massage table. The business was also found to be advertising on illicit websites and allowing people to live on the premises, which violated the law.

This is not the first time a business located at 565 West Oates Rd. in Garland has been investigated, and it remains unclear if Healing Foot Spa will be allowed to reopen after the six-month emergency closure. The agency did not specify if the business owner would face any charges as a result of the investigation.

The Department of Licensing and Regulation has the authority to issue emergency closures for businesses suspected of human trafficking under a law passed in 2023, and this marks the 18th time such an order has been issued. Information on this case comes directly from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
