Grand Prairie ISD Superintendent, Dr. Jorge Arredondo, has officially resigned after being on paid suspension since September. The board approved a separation agreement with Arredondo in a four to three vote, although the financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Arredondo was hired in June but was suspended after violating the district’s discrimination, harassment, and retaliation policy based on an outside investigation report. Despite efforts by trustees to fire him in December without revealing details of the investigation, Arredondo fought to keep his job by taking legal action.
Community members have expressed concerns over the lack of transparency regarding the investigation report and the terms of Arredondo’s resignation. Some have called for the report to be released to provide clarity on the situation.
Moving forward, the district will begin the process of finding a new superintendent now that Arredondo has resigned. Trustee Emily Liles expressed disappointment in the lack of transparency surrounding the settlement agreement and the investigation report, stating that it goes against the values of the board.
