Governor Greg Abbott announced the activation of state emergency response resources ahead of winter weather expected in Texas later this week. A wintry mix of precipitation is expected to impact North Texas, Central Texas, and Southeast Texas. Abbott urged Texans to remain weather-aware, check DriveTexas.org before traveling, and utilize warming centers if needed.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management has activated resources from several state agencies, including the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas National Guard, and others. Additional resources are on standby for deployment if needed, including the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Over 700 Texas Department of Transportation personnel have already pre-treated roads, bridges, and overpasses in preparation for the winter weather. Texans are advised to monitor local forecasts, check road conditions before traveling, and follow instructions from emergency officials. The state is working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of Texans as they brace for potentially severe winter weather conditions. Abbott expressed his gratitude to emergency management personnel and first responders for their tireless efforts in preparing and supporting communities during this time.
