Houston police arrest Texas Uber driver following sexual assault case – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl during a rideshare service in Plano, Texas, was shot during an arrest in Houston after being on the run for several months. 32-year-old Robert Gregory Johnson III, a former Uber employee, was wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child for an incident in July 2024. Johnson picked up the victim at a facility in Frisco and allegedly assaulted her after taking her to Plano. The young girl was using an Uber Health ride service tailored for unaccompanied minors.

He cut off his ankle monitor in August 2024, leading to a search by law enforcement and the public. Johnson was located at a McDonald’s in Houston by authorities with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force on February 4th, resulting in an officer-involved shooting during his arrest. Johnson was the only person injured but is expected to survive. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, and Johnson may face additional charges.

Collin County Sheriff Skinner praised the public and law enforcement partnerships for their role in locating and apprehending Johnson. The case underscores the importance of community involvement in law enforcement efforts. Uber confirmed the incident took place during an Uber Health ride and has cooperated with the investigation.
