After being on the run since August when he removed his court-ordered ankle monitor, a North Texas child sex crime fugitive was shot and arrested by task force officers in Houston. Robert Gregory Johnson III, 33, of Garland, was originally arrested last summer for raping a 12-year-old girl in Plano. A Be On the Lookout (BOLO) was issued for Johnson in January, leading to his capture at a Houston McDonald’s.
During the arrest, officers attempted to give Johnson verbal commands, but he did not comply. They used a Taser on him, but he still did not cooperate. Johnson then reached into a bag, prompting officers to fire, hitting him. Subsequently, a task force K9 was deployed to subdue Johnson, who is expected to survive his injuries.
Previously, Johnson was arrested in July for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Uber passenger he picked up from a therapy facility in Frisco. He was working for Uber Health at the time and had a graphic conversation with the girl before assaulting her in a Plano parking lot. Johnson was out on bond, wearing an ankle monitor, when he cut it off and fled North Texas.
Once Johnson is cleared medically, he will face charges in Collin County. The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting in Houston, while Johnson’s additional charges remain unclear. This arrest highlights the efforts of law enforcement in capturing dangerous fugitives and bringing them to justice.
