Investigation Launched by Texas Attorney General into Schools Plotting to Place Boys on Girls’ Sports Teams

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating two school districts after officials were recorded offering to alter records for male students to allow them to play on girls’ sports teams, in violation of Texas law. The investigation was sparked by an expose by Accuracy In Media revealing the statements made by the school officials on separate occasions.

Paxton has condemned the actions of the school officials, stating that any effort to allow biological boys to play in girls’ sports in Texas will be rooted out and those responsible will be held to account. The investigation could have broad implications as President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order rescinding funds from educational programs that deprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities.

The school officials caught on tape offering to help male students play on girls’ sports teams by altering records have faced consequences. Irving Independent School District’s executive director of campus operations, Reny Lizardo, resigned following the expose. The district has distanced itself from Lizardo’s actions, stating that all employees are expected to adhere to legal and ethical standards.

The Dallas Independent School District’s LGBT Youth Program Coordinator, Mahoganie Gaston, was also recorded offering ways to circumvent Texas law. It is unclear if Gaston is still employed by the district.

Paxton’s investigation aims to uncover the extent of the problem and ensure that Texas school districts comply with state law regarding boys playing on girls’ sports teams.
