Two individuals, 40-year-old Reynaldo Salinas Cruz and 35-year-old Sofia Rodas, have been arrested in connection to the murder of U.S. Army soldier PFC Katia Duenas Aguilar, who was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY. Aguilar, 23, was found dead in a home in Clarksville, TN on May 18, 2024, with the autopsy revealing she had been stabbed 68 times. Rodas has been charged with first degree murder and tampering with evidence, while Cruz, Aguilar’s husband, has been charged with tampering with evidence. Both were already in federal custody on unrelated charges at the time of their indictment in December and were extradited to Clarksville on February 7, 2025.
Aguilar, a Mesquite native, joined the U.S. Army after graduating from North Mesquite High School and had recently received a new post in Hawaii in 2022. She leaves behind a 4-year-old son and had received several awards during her time in the army. The case remains an open and active investigation awaiting prosecution.
Roman Palomares, LULAC National President and Chairman of the Board, expressed support for Aguilar’s family and emphasized the importance of seeking justice in her case to potentially prevent similar tragedies in the future.
