Police in Irving, Texas have issued an Athena Alert for 12-year-old Alison Ramirez-Lopez, who went missing on her way to a birthday party on Sunday morning. She was last seen on February 9 in the 1000 block of Harlan Street and is believed to be in Alabama or a surrounding state. Ramirez-Lopez is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall with brown eyes and brown hair, and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, and black shoes.
The Athena Alert was created in 2023 following the disappearance of 7-year-old Athena Strand in Wise County. The alert can be issued when a child goes missing without confirmation of an abduction, and can be sent to people within a 100-mile radius of the disappearance. The new law was put into place after Strand went missing on a Wednesday night, but an Amber Alert wasn’t issued until Thursday afternoon due to not meeting the criteria.
It is still unknown why Ramirez-Lopez may be in Alabama or nearby states, and authorities have not disclosed the distance between her home and the friend’s house where she was supposed to be going. Information in this article comes from Irving police. Anyone with information on Ramirez-Lopez’s whereabouts is urged to contact authorities immediately.
