The organization suggests using the song’s rhythm to help save lives in the event of a cardiac arrest, as CPR training can triple a person’s chances of surviving. More than 350,000 people experience cardiac arrest outside of a hospital annually, making CPR and AED awareness crucial.
Hands-only CPR involves two simple steps: calling 911 and performing chest compressions at the rate of 100 to 120 beats per minute. The song “Not Like Us” can be used as a guide for practicing compressions at home. The American Heart Association has also approved several other tracks, including songs by artists such as Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, and Beyoncé, for practicing CPR.
The association is working to educate communities on the importance of knowing CPR and how to respond in emergency situations. With the goal of turning bystanders into lifesavers, CPR training is being promoted as a critical skill that can be learned by individuals as young as nine years old. By incorporating music into CPR practice, more people can be prepared to effectively respond to cardiac emergencies.
