Protecting Girls’ Sports in Texas: The Battle continues

Attorney General Ken Paxton is actively investigating school districts and officials in Texas who are openly disregarding state law protecting the integrity of women’s athletics. Following demands for documents from Dallas and Irving ISD, Paxton’s office has now sent letters to the Superintendents of Hutto and Richardson ISD. The investigations stem from public statements made by officials in both districts indicating a willingness to allow biological boys to compete in girls’ sports, in violation of Texas law.

Paxton stated that there will be consequences for any unlawful activity by school officials who endanger female athletes and undermine girls’ athletics by permitting boys to compete. The requests for information were prompted by comments from Hutto ISD’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director, Keyawna Glaze, suggesting “workarounds” to allow male students to participate in girls’ sports. Similarly, Richardson ISD’s Executive Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Angie Lee, indicated a willingness to allow male students to stay in rooms with female students on school trips and participate in girls’ sports.

Paxton emphasized that he will thoroughly review all documents to determine if there is a systematic effort within these districts to ignore the law and allow boys to play in girls’ sports. If such a pattern is found, he ensured that those responsible will face justice. The letters sent to Hutto ISD and Richardson ISD can be accessed for further information.
