Another deadly bomb blast in Afghanistan claims lives of five people

A bomb blast in northeastern Afghanistan has left at least five people dead and seven wounded, according to local police. The explosion occurred near a Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz province, with a suicide bomber detonating himself using improvised explosive devices. Among the casualties are the bank’s security guard, civilians, and members of the Taliban security personnel. The attack remains unclaimed as of now.

While the number of bomb blasts and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has decreased since the US withdrawal and the Taliban takeover in August 2021, various armed groups including ISIL (ISIS) continue to pose a threat. The ISIL affiliate in Khorasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Kunduz in October 2021, resulting in numerous fatalities.

Despite ongoing attacks, the Taliban authorities assert that they have largely defeated the ISIL group. Past incidents include a suicide bombing outside a bank in Kandahar in March last year, claimed by the regional chapter of ISIL. The Kunduz province police are currently collaborating with relevant agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the recent blast, with the aim of bringing them to justice.
